Indeed ! My video recorder will be in continuous action.

Lots of great stuff to be broadcast over the next few weeks, including a couple of hours of 'Jazz 625'. :excited: Check out some of the listed bands - I'll have to give Tooter a heads up about the LeSage so that he gets some rare Ronnie Ross footage in the bag.. :tup

I,ve really enjoyed the Jazz Britannia series & I've found it very informative , but is it just me or should Derek Bailey have had a mention by now?

Yes, Gary - there was some mention of SME on the show last night and Evan Parker was interviewed but I think all we saw of Bailey was a photograph for about half a second with a few sort-of half-dismissive remarks as being really way out.

Really enjoyed this episode 2. That colour footage of the Graham Bond Organisation with Dick Heckstall-Smith was amazing - I believe it was a track they cut called 'Harmonica' for some low-key mid-60s film. Good that they gave the GBO the appropriate plaudits as a key influence on 60s rock.

The 'Jazz 625' show was also well worth recording. Great to see Ronnie Ross get the appropriate features and to see those two Tubby Hayes Big Band performances. Bil LeSage's 'New Directions' with Ross also got some good footage. Also nice to get the chance to see that Kenny Wheeler Big Band material from 1977 as originally featured on 'Omnibus' (I half-remember that one originally going out).

That was a great episode last night, better than the previous week's.

Interesting to see the take on the sub-genres by the main protagonists at the time; almost like there was a class system or hierarchy in operation. How very British ;)

What tickled me was the very 'ordinari ness'of these guys (and gals); after years of gigging at the very top, some were just like kids looking in, some exhibited sour grapes and others just seemed happy to have been there at all. Just like talking to old cyclists who I meet up with every Saturday morning!

The Wheeler Omnibus was quite a peculiar programme, given that he has to be the most un-talkative guy on the planet. Nice fella though it seems.

How good was that Blakey documentary ????

I thought 'I'll give it 10 mins then put a tape in', but I ended up watching it all.

Great stuff.

WTF has happened to Steve Williamson??

Well worth checking out. It features mainly the 'Jazz Warriors' in their collaboration with Blakey around 1986. Good snippets of ex-Messengers like Bobby Watson, Curtis Fuller, Shorter, Golson etc. Also some interesting 'drum clinic' footage of Blakey.
