Dan Gould Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Stumbled across an Atlantic comp. of Ray Charles hits, "Recorded in 8 Track Stereo". Notes by Leonard Feather (DANGER Will Robinson, DANGER! going on at length about this "new, state-of-the-art recording technique" bringing out the best in Ray, blah blah blah. Noticed that the track listing/personnel usually had Ray on the right channel, and then some further separation in the center and on the left. So my question is, is anyone familiar with this animal? Does this remastering produce some astounding results? Should I have snagged it? (I might have taken a chance, at $7 when I looked at one side which was pristine, but the other side had a pretty nasty scratch through pretty much the whole side, I'd have spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up the pops, assuming it would play through.) Thanks! Quote
Stereojack Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I had the LP years ago, originally picked it up just to hear the hits in stereo. The sound is nothing to crow about. Charles' voice appears in one channel on most of the tracks. Without checking, I think that all of these same tracks are in stereo on the 3-CD box of his Atlantic R&B sides that came out several years ago. Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 13, 2005 Author Report Posted February 13, 2005 Thanks. I figured as much. Quote
