jivemaster666
On 3/29, this new jazz compilation - Hot Club de France – a selection of some of the Paris jazz club’s finest musical performances is coming out. It includes jazz, blues, ragtime, gospel etc. from Louis Armstrong w/ Jewel Brown, Memphis Slim, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Willie Smith, some french jazz musicians etc. Pretty cool stuff. Music form 50's through the 80's.
brownie
The Hot Club de France is not a Paris club. It's a gathering of jazz fans that was created in the '30s by Hugues Panassie. The HCF was pretty active decades ago but many of the fans left it when Panassie decided that the new music of people like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk were not part of the music he thought jazz was. The HCF is soon on its way to extinction. The compilation that is being issued now gathers some of the tracks from the HCF releases that came out on the Milan label. Some of those are displayed on this website: http://www.milanrecords.com/jazz/index.htm
EKE BBB
The Hot Club de France is not a Paris club. It's a gathering of jazz fans that was created in the '30s by Hugues Panassie... Same for the Hot Club of Barcelona (founded on 1935, while the Paris Hot Club was founded on 1932) and Madrid. And many other small Spanish towns (specially in Cataluña), such as Manresa, Vilafranca del Penedés... Same musical orientation: 'mouldy fygges' rule!
