lkaven Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Does anyone out there happen to know how I might get in touch with bassist Steve Neil? [Do I even need to say how great he is? Feel free to hijack the thread in that direction.] I need to tap his brains...I mean, his mind. Luke Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Where would I have heard him? The name doesn't ring a bell. Quote
l p Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 (edited) he played with lateef in 1978, and pharoah in 1979, 1993-96. and yes, he is good. as far as getting in touch with him, you'd have to post a query to bass forums (on google groups alt.guitar.bass; and alt.bass), or he may have his own website. marcello Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 I believe Steve Neil has passed. Here's a photo I took of him when he was with Hannibal: Quote
king ubu Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f31/rip-steve-neil-640593/RIP Steve Neil I got this email today, Steve Neil wasn't a household name, but he was an incredible bassist and a big influence on Charnett Moffett and many others -------------------------------------------------------- Steve Neil passed away on Sunday. He had developed a severe case of pneumonia, along with congestive heart failure. When he went to the hospital Saturday, both lungs were completely full of fluid. He ended up having open heart surgery to repair holes in a couple of arteries. He made it through the surgery, but then they couldn't get his blood pressure back up. He had been living on the Cape for the past year-plus. Joanie, his partner, says he had been doing very well. She also thinks he may have known the end was near. I am remembering a lot of wonderful music - as well as the unique acts like riding around on his bicycle with an upright bass on his back. Quote
