Dmitry Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Just bought the cutest thing - a mint 7"EP of Morgan's Corn Bread. Haven't played it yet. Comes with a bunch of album cover stickers and a tear-away sheet of juke box labels. Has a discrete drill hole almost near the middle of cover [why?]. I haven't seen too many 7" BN EPs. What's the story with these? Quote
wolff Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 An EP(33 1/3), not a 45? I have a few BN 45's. Quote
JSngry Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 The drill hole is most likely a cutout marking. Pretty gruesome, I know, but I've bought lots of cutout 45s over the years with that kind of thing The story of the EPs is, as the included labels suggest, jukebox play. You used to see EPs on jukeboxes, including jazz ones. Around here, there were jazz 45s on the jukeboxes in some clubs "in the hood" as recently as 15 years ago, and they still got played by the clientele. But that was then, and this is now. Oh well... But this should give you an idea of how popular Lee Morgan was. Popular enought o spend the bucks on an EP for jukebox play. People were ready for some Lee on the jukebox! And yes, I've seen 7" EPs that play at 45 RPM. Own a few, in fact. But I don't know at what speed these BNs play. Quote
JohnS Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 (edited) I have two or three 45 singles and a four track 7" 33 (with the juke box labels and small cover reproductions.) Edited February 28, 2005 by JohnS Quote
Dmitry Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 dmitry - let's SEE it! -e- I'll post a pic of the whole package later this week. I'm not at home now, but I'm pretty sure it's a 33, not a 45. Quote
Bill Fenohr Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 (edited) The 7"EP's ran at 33 1/3 speed. I think there were about 20 of them issued. They had one song to each side. The only one i remember being part 1 and part 2 was Jimmy Smith's The Sermon. The Three Sounds that is pictured above was the only one with four songs. Edited March 1, 2005 by Bill Fenohr Quote
RDK Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I have five or six of those jukebox eps. I'll try to check the titles and tracks when I get home tonight. I thought most of them had 2 tracks/side, but I could be wrong. Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 (edited) anyone want to list them all? what about 45s? cornbread ep is the coolest thing ever- ive seen it on ebay years ago. if i was in a bar in 1966 and cornbread was on the jukebox id put it on and freak-dance with the hottest chick in the place Edited March 5, 2005 by ariceffron Quote
