wolff Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Their studio titles sound mono. Anyone else notice this. Quote
marcello Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Wolf - which ones are you refering to? The only one I have is Joe Locke and Geoff Keezer's "The New Sound Quartet; Summer Knows" and the sound is first rate. It's a hybird CD. Quote
wolff Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 (edited) I have the vinyl issues of 5 titles. I'm referring to Roy Haynes: Love Letters and Farnsworth: Prime Time. I'll have to listen to others, but I recall them being the same. Sweet recordings, but with a mono sound stage. I'm really surprised, knowing Baker recorded them. Just curious. Maybe it's just the vinyl, as they were done seperately from the digital. The Eddie Henderson: So What? is wide stereo. As is the Plaxico live date. Clark Terry/Max Roach: Friendship is mono. I'd like to know if Mr. Itoh is aware of this. Maybe the vinyl is for the Japanese market and all their vintage mono set-ups. Edited April 24, 2005 by wolff Quote
marcello Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 This is from the Eighty- Eights web site. Maybe this explains the difference you hear? X-Compound Press This is a special format designed only for Eight-Eight's label. This format has been developed upon full investigation on each process required to create the vinyl disc, to achieve the best sound quality. This format enabled to offer the natural, vivid and richer analog sound compared to the general 180g vinyl discs. This format is introduced from our fourth release, "Mad 6 / Ravi Coltrane" Eighty - Eights Quote
mikeweil Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Only fault is they are very expensive outside of Japan - amazon.de wants € 45.00 for the Keezer/Locke!!! I guess I'll have to order from Japan. Quote
