what's a better way to learn....

on a table

with 2/4 people or

7/9 people

Different styles of play and sets of skills. You obviously need both if you want to win tournaments. If you are planning to play low-limit ring games, then the latter is better because it's easier to make money.

A free-roll is fine by me. Poker without money isn't really poker but its still a fun card game.

I bet if we get the West Coast US guys up a little early and you stay up a little late we can work it out. How does a Saturday morning freeroll sound to everyone?

Sounds good, hopefully I can do it.

One thing we COULD do is all chip in off-site with a few bucks and set up our own payouts. It would be a bit of a pain to set up. Alternatively, and given the nature of this board, we could replace cash by CDs.

I'm out of any game bigger than 2/4 for a couple of months, unless you can guarantee some real fish at your table...lol...

The tournament is a $20 Buy-In NL. the cash game will be $1/$2 Pot Limit Dealer's Choice (casino spread games only). Don't be fooled, in 1/2 Limit the pots will be pretty small ($25-$50), 1/2 Pot Limit will tend to have pots 2 to 10 times that.

I can guarantee at least 3 fish at this game (plus 2 full-time pro's and a hand full of serious amateurs).

You are very welcome to come.

paulson chips are nice and expensive, it figures i like 'um

what kind of chip sets do you guyzzz own?

I've been researching chips again. My current set is a standard "home" set of composites with stickers applied. I can scan one if anyone's interested. I have a set of 1,500 chips.

I was going to upgrade to custom chips but I can't bring myself to paid $2,000 for a complete set of customs. So, I'm buy 2,000 Nexgens and stickering them.

what should i have done?

3 dueces and an ace on the board

i'm holding an ace for the full boat

i am called all in

I'm not a no-limit guy, but you probably have the best hand here. The only hands that beat you are AA and 2x, both are unlikely. If the guy who puts you all-in didn't play very aggressively pre-flop, you can effectively rule out AA. Furthermore, anybody with a decent pocket pair (say, 99 and higher) might think they have the best hand and play aggressively. So definitely go all-in.

that said, realize that there's a good chance at a chop, so you'd effectively only be going all in just to get your money back plus whatever bets happened pre-flop and on the flop. That said, the one 2x that might actually get play would be A2. I know players that will play A-anything, and if they could have played A2 cheaply, I wouldn't put it past them.

That said, I would assume the chop, and I'd get my money in.
