robviti Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 Hey ho! Can someone provide me with information about a Jazz Mark lp called Danish Brew? I read somewhere it features live recordings from television and concert performances recorded between 1959 and 1961. Here's what I have regarding combined personnel and track listings: Brew Moore – tenor sax (tracks 1-6) Don Byas – tenor sax (tracks 6-8) Paul Godske – piano Bent Axen – piano Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen – bass Alex Riel – drums William Schiopffe – drums 1. Ergo 2. If I Had You 3. Take the "A" Train 4. My Funny Valentine 5. Topsy 6. Lester Leaps In 7. There Will Never Be Another You 8. Don't Blame Me Here's what I'm looking for: 1) Which tracks feature Godske or Axen and Riel or Schiopffe? 2) Do you have any additional info about the recording dates, locations, etc.? 3) Do you have any other info concerning the producer, recording engineers, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help! Quote

robviti Posted May 27, 2005 Author Report Posted May 27, 2005 (edited) GEEZ CHUCK, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO MEAN??? what? er, i mean, thanks a lot for your help! Any info on the last two tracks (There Will Never Be Another You [4:15], Don't Blame Me [5:14]) that feature Byas without Moore? They're live, but they're considerably shorter than the tracks of the same names that appeared on Walkin' (Black Lion) and Autumn Leaves (Jazz House). Again thanks to anyone who can help. jazzbo Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 My copy of this shows that the tunes with just Byas are from the same concert as If I Had You, Take the A Train, Ergo and Lester Leaps In. That is they are recorded live at the Scala concert halol in Arhous Denmark "circa 1959". . . . Says the r-section is Bent Axen, NHOP, and William Schoiffe. . . so different spelling for the drummer and obviously NHOP credited on bass. The Topsy and My Funny Valentine tracks are credited with an r-section of Paul Godske, NHOP and Alex Reil, from "a TV broadcast circa 1961." Both sections could well have NHOP within according to my ears, for what that's worth. I have a custom made cdr that purports to be from Jazz Mark 101. I like the TV broadcast tracks the best myself. It's interesting to hear the two horns with the same section though, Brew being more Presidential, and Byas being more Bean-like. . . . Quote
