I presume that the four volumes of ABC Impulse contain Alternates, Outtakes, Live perfomances that for some reasons where not included in the previous LP. Some of this material appeared in the CD remastered series, am I wrong? Any additional info?

If it can help, here's the detailed content of 3 of the 4 Mastery Volumes:

But there is something wrong with the Volume numbers on this page. In another discography, I have an additional Volume (2LP/CDs) with recordings of the quartet where Roy Haynes replaces Elvin.

Some of these recordings later appeared on the GRP/Impulse! CD "Dear old Stockholm". The tracks "After the Rain", "My favourite things" and "I want to talk about you" were already released on the original albums "Impressions" and "Selflessness". At least that's what my Coltrane book says, I have not checked it.

Thanks.

Trane's discography on Impulse! is such a mess: Impulse!, Abc Impulse! Grp Impulse! vinyls and cds. It's really hard to get most of Trane's music w/o having dozens of dupes. :(

I wish a Columbia/Davis/Cuscuna treatment for Trane's Impulse! recordings, possibly with Mosaic vinyl editions

I'm pretty sure all of the "Mastery" material has made it to CD, for the most part as reissues of the original sessions. That was a teriffic series, by the way - in an age before the exhaustive "Mosaic" style issues, it put out Coltrane material that most of us never heard before!
