Dave James
Hoisted on my own petard by "News" Twizzle. I stand corrected. Up over and out.
ghost of miles
This past summer I picked up a cheap used copy of some of Brown's Coral work--THE LES BROWN SONGBOOK, on Varese Sarabande. Very good early 1950s Les--you can hear some of it, along with Les & Larry Elgart, on the Aug. 12 "Two Guys Named Les" Big Bands program that I did. DukeCity
You can check out the Les Brown band in the big prom scene at the end of the original "Nutty Professor" where they're featured quite a bit (including Les' brother Stumpy (Shorty?). Somewhat off topic: the Basie band w/ Joe Williams appearing in Jerry Lewis' movie "Cinderfella".
Free For All
BTW, in case you haven't seen it, in the movie "The Bellboy" Jerry Lewis does a whole pantomime to a recording of Basie's "Blues In Hoss Flat". Worth watching for that alone IMHO.
