Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I wonder if anybody here had ever come accross Israeli Jazz? Although Isreal is better known in other areas there is quite an active scene here with Festivals, clubs and many excellent musicians. There are also quite a few recordings available - these are sadly rarely available outside the country. If you are interested to find out more please feel free to ask me any questions or visit my site. Quote
bertrand Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 One of the semi-finalists at this year's Monk guitar competition, Yotam (have to look up the last name later) is from Israel. I really liked his playing - real nice guy too. Bertrand. Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 There are scores of Israelis studying at US Jazz schools, he is one of them Quote

" He he he.... there are other cities here as well. Some people here might be familiar with the excellent bass player Avishai Cohen (Chick Corea). His solo albums are excellebt examples of Jazz / World fusion. Quote
B. Goren. Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 He he he.... there are other cities here as well. According to Barak, only Jerusalem counts.... Quote
bertrand Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Yotam told me he is not from Jerusalem - the Monk bio was wrong. He is from a city near Tel Aviv. Bertrand. Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Here you go - problem solved - there is Jazz beyond Jerusalem. Amen Quote

Jerusalem is 40 minutes drive from Tel Aviv... Seriously, if the competitors in the semi finals were as strong as the 2003 competitors in the bone context, every one of the 10 semi finalists must be a killer guitarist. Quote

Actually, Eldad lives just a few doors away from me here in L.A., but I know that he's spent time in Israel and Northern Africa (a musical sabatical I believe), so i thought that you might have heard of him.
