Peter Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Having consumed the recent RVG & Connoisseur re-issues I find myself wondering, what's next? Anybody know? Would especially like an RVG of Jackie Mac's "It's Time!" It's the only one I'm missing from the Mosaic. Quote

Andrew Hill's Smoke Stack should be getting a domestic issue soon as well. Guy Quote
Claude Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Will RVG continue the Blue Note series while doing remasters for Fantasy (the upcoming Prestige RVG series)? On the other hand, the sound of some titles of the last two Blue Note RVG batches makes me wonder if Rudy is still behind the controls for those remasters. As far as "Night dreamer" and "Fuego" are concerned (I haven't heard the other reissues), I almost could not hear a difference to the previous McMaster remasters. Anyway, it's good to see Blue Note albums back in print. Quote

But for.. the increased volume, I cannot always discern a significant change.( Not trying to re-plow old turf just stating my opinion!!!) On the other hand...... I recently decided to pick up the RVG of Hank Mobley's Hi Voltage. It is one of my favorite Hank dates and after listening to the McMaster I thought it could use some improvement. The RVG is much improved IMHO. In the McMaster Hank is very deep in the mix. The RVG seems much more balanced. As I said, just my opnion. I would welcome other comments. Maybe we need to start a new thread. Do not want to hijack Peter's thread. I am curious as to what may be coming down the pike as well. Quote

Just waiting for Chuck to chime in with a ........WRONG!!!! No harm intended here Chuck. Just an opinion. I apologize if I was not clear. On the McMaster during some of Hank's solo's the rhythm section seems much more prominent/pronounced than on the RVG. IMHO. To ME the RVG of this one sounded more life like. That is all. Quote
