Hot off the ESPN presses. A-Rod nudges David Ortiz for the AL MVP. Along with the departure of Beantown wonderkind Theo Epstein and the pending Johnny Damon free agency, this should cause Dan some sleepless nights.

Dave, didn't you yourself say that Big Papi is the very definition of MVP?

The fact is, when I take off my Red Sox fan hat, I understand why A-Rod gets it as being more valuable as an all-around player. As Buck Showalter says, the game is all about run production and run reduction. Big Papi was a tremendous run producer, but when you factor in A-Rod's defense, its probably the right decision.

Still he'll always be remembered for this:

How valuable can he be when the teams he's on never win the big one? There's more to the game of baseball than numbers. There is guts, leadership, teamplay and grace under pressure. 11 years in the big leagues and he can't even win on the Yankees! He drains the payroll of the teams he plays for and when the pressure is on he folds like a lawn chair. Pathetic.

I reiterate: The Yankees will never win another world series until they dump A-Rod.

Dan,

Yup. I thought Ortiz would get this. I've never seen anyone get more clutch hits than that guy. I'll tell you one thing, it's a good thing for both of them (especially A-Rod) that they hold this voting before the playoffs.

Up over and out.
