My apologies for drudging up an old thread. I am still having trouble starting topics so I had to search for something 'close'.

I am curious if anyone has listened to: JOHN ZORN MASADA BOOK TWO: MASADA QUINTET [JOE LOVANO/DAVE DOUGLAS/URI CAINE/GREG COHEN/JOEY BARON] - Stolas: 'Book Of Angels' Vol. 12?

Comments/opinions anyone?

I wasn't aware of this one. Looks like it doesn't come out until next week though.

And it's interesting to see Lovano on Tzadik, with Dave Douglas & Zorn. I guess it's through his SF Jazz Collective work with Douglas? Or has Lovano done more work like this that I'm not aware of?

How about the work of Lovano with Paul Motian and Bill Frisell? Not like Zorn but certainly more outside than his Blue Note works.

I picked up the recording I mentioned in the 2nd post above. I'm not disappointed at all - Lovano really works hard to fit seemlessly into this music. It's nice with catchy melodies and good grooves. It's accessible and similar in many ways to the Mesada recordings.
