Dan Gould Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Anyone familiar with this French LP? Apparently recorded April 22, 1961, I'm especially curious about who was in Spoon's backing band. Thanks! Quote
brownie Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Buck Clayton and his gang (Emmett Berry, Dicky Wells, Earl Warren, Buddy Tate, Sir Charles Thompson, Gene Ramey and Oliver Jackson) backed Witherspoon that evening. Crowd must have been thin because several French Army regiments held a mutiny in Algeria the same day and there was a call of arms in Paris in the evening for fear of an attack from paratroops regiments. The rebellion ended four days later after most of the Army refused to join in. Missed the Olympia concert cause I was a soldier in Algeria at the time (rebelling against the rebel units) Quote

Oooh .... looks like a real good 'un. I thinks I'm gonna have to grab this one. Must be like this CD but with Spoon instead of Jimmy Rushing: Thanks, Brownie! P.S. - wonder why this hasn't come out as a CD ... or has it? Quote
brownie Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 (edited) Dan, I think French Vogue issued this as CD several years ago but don't sue me if this is proved to be inaccurate Edited December 13, 2005 by brownie Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 Dan, I think French Vogue issued this as CD several years ago but don't sue me if this is proved to be inaccurate Actually, AMG does list it is a Vogue release (doesn't say CD) and its under Clayton's name, not Witherspoon's. That was why I didn't find it on AMG. Oh well - I just sprung for the LP, maybe if I'm lucky it will get here before Christmas but most likely it will be waiting when I return, an excellent late gift to myself. Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 31, 2005 Author Report Posted December 31, 2005 Guy, this one was indeed waiting for me when I got home after Christmas and it is indeed quite nice. Thanks again for the info and inspiration to go ahead and grab it. Quote
