tjluke68 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I just found this yesterday - sorry if it's already known information. You can buy Custom CDs from old Folkways or Cook Records LPs from Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. There's some neat stuff there - Ellington, Lizzie Miles, Mugsy Spanier, Frank Signorelli, Bunny Berigan, etc - and that's just the Jazz stuff. The only bad part is they don't provide album cover art for any of the custom CDs. Since the picture is up on the site of the LP cover, maybe they could provide the JPEG or GIF... I'm thinking about ordering 2-3 CDs today... Quote
Adam Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 (edited) This came up in a former thread about Folkways. I remember posting that link. Hmm, can't find it. It's good to give Folkways it's own thread anyway. A Edited December 19, 2005 by Adam Quote
frank m Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Thanks===I just looked at the site and there is indeed some fine stuff there. I'm particularly interested in the Jame P Johnson. Quote
medjuck Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I bought a cd from them once bbecasue it had a Gil Evans cut. it also had pieces by Mary Lou Williams and Sonny Murray. My memory is that it was a bit expensive. There are liner notes. Quote
Pete B Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Vol 9 has a rare Lennie Tristano cut "Blues". Quote
