mikeweil Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Anybody happen to have this and can tell how it is? Thanks! Twin Tenors/Bob Mintzer (Novus) Bob Mintzer(ts), Micheal Brecker(ts), Don Grolnick(p), Michael Formanek(b), Peter Erskine(ds) 1992.11 Quote
DukeCity Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 I got it when it came out, but haven't listened in a while. If you know all of those guys, it's pretty much exactly what you would expect. I'm a fan of Mintzer's melodic approach and his tone, and of course, Brecker is Brecker (although I recall him sounding a bit restrained on this). I liked the fact that it didn't have the vibe of a "cutting contest". Grolnick and Erskine also do some good work. I think the record is techincally a Mintzer record, so it's different even than the Grolinck Bluenote that Brecker and Mintzer(on bass clar.) appear on. But it's in a very similar vein. I remember particularly liking the ballad medley (Body and Soul? and Everything Happens to Me?). I think the only other Brecker/Mintzer pairing I have is the out-of-control, blow-fueled Jaco Birthday Big Band thing; quite a different animal than Twin Tenors! I guess, my bottom line on TT is, if you like Brecker and/or Mintzer and/or Grolnick, jump in. Quote
