Jim Alfredson Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 organissimo will be at the 2006 Detroit International Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 3, 2006. I don't have a specific time, but we'll be going on right before the headliner on the Waterfront Stage. I believe the headliner is the Jaco Pastorius Tribute Big Band. Root Doctor will also be at the festival on Saturday, September 2nd, opening for James Cotton and Taj Mahal. With organissimo in Chicago, and both bands in Detroit that weekend, it'll be a busy couple of days! Woo hoo! Quote

BeBop Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I went to the Detroit festival last year. As I recall, it had just been saved/ressurected by, among others, Mack Avenue Records. Beautiful weather, decent outdoor venue(s) and a wonderful lineup. Louis Smith, Charles McPherson, Randy Weston, McCoy Tyner, Fathead Newman, Ron Blake...dang, this is tough from memory. Anyway, worth checking out. Quote

GregN Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Well just got an invite to the press conference for next week! I may have to sneak down there. Quote
marcello Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 (edited) Joe Locke & The Milt Jackson Tribute Band will be playing on 9/4. Bob Cranshaw, Joe Locke, Mike LeDonne, & Mickey Roker Edited May 4, 2006 by marcello Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 I take it LeDonne will be playing piano? I might come back to D-town for this. Root Doctor is playing on the 2nd and organissimo on the 3rd, so that's a lot of back and forth. We'll have to wait until Monday to see who's playing on the 4th. Quote

Maybe we can get hotel rooms for the whole weekend? I am glad they are doing this is Detroit! The city is doing fairly well in spots and some feel it is making a comeback. Lots of powerful movers and shakers doing great things. This festival is very cool and I for one am very honored to be a part of it. Maybe we can take the kids on Monday Jim? Get little Zora a cool beret and some shades? Quote
