BeBop Posted May 13, 2006 Author Report Posted May 13, 2006 The Blue Note catalog still spings some surprises on me but that's becoming fewer and far between. Gonna have to go scavenger hunting for OJC's now that it's becoming a challenge. This is a good point. I look at the upcoming Connoisseurs and the Solomon Ilori has some appeal - not "more of the same" - so I've no reservations about buying it, though it's arguably "more Blue Note". Quote
mikeweil Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 In my world, Blue Note is not more important than Riverside, Prestige, Contemporary, Pacific Jazz, Fantasy, Savoy, Verve, you name it. Cuscuna's marketing strategies derserve credit for their dedication and quality standards, but, as with every producer, some of his decisions seem a little subjective to me. But I'm not in this business and better keep my mouth shut. I find some of the cult around the label borders on hype. I wish there was a documentary about each of the other labels. And some engineers made better sound, to these ears, than RVG. But I'm not really complaining. I'm glad all that music is there and available - or much of it, as it were. Quote
