Dave James Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 (edited) 'the 40 yr virgin is the funniest comedy film since the three amigos came out in the late 80s' Talk about damning it with faint praise! Bertrand, A-friggin'-men to that. The Three Amigos was barely watchable. An Ishtar-like waste of talent. Up over and out. Edited July 17, 2006 by Dave James Quote

RDK Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 I think Steve Carrell is hilarious, but I thought this movie was sub-par for him. I saw the unedited version, which was way long. Subtle is not a word that comes to mind when I think of this movie. A lot of the gags were purely shock value. I'd say this movie was a near-miss for him and hope he takes on more challenging roles in the future. You're not the first person who's been critical of the extended, unrated DVD version. Everyone i know who has seem the film both theatrically and on DVD said the extended DVD version is weaker in comparison. Quote
.:.impossible Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 I'll admit that I haven't seen the final cut, so I shouldn't criticize. Still, I'd like to see Carrell take on a more challenging role. Something subtle, for instance. Quote
Kalo Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 I'd like to see Carell's new film, Little Miss Sunshine, but don't recall seeing it in release yet. Maybe it came and went quickly, I don't know. In Theaters July 26 Ahhhh. Featuring the always wonderful Toni Collette. Thanks for the good news. I should jump on this, 'cause I've got a feeling it won't be anywhere near the hit that "Virgin" was. I saw the preview for this the other day and it looked pretty good. Alan Arkin! Quote
