stevebop Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Hey Jazz Fans, Last April I featured two hours of Chicago tenor saxophonist Gene "Jug" Ammons on my radio program, "Jazz From Studio Four." The entire show is now available for on-demand listening from the 'GBH website. Simply go to: www.wgbh.org/jazz and click on the Gene Ammons link. Enjoy! Quote

Good album that. MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) ????? Jug made two jam sessions with very similar titles in '56 and '57. The '56 session was called "Hi fi jam session" PR7060, but reissued on PR7781 under the title "Jammin' with Gene". The OJC reissue (OJCCD 211) refers to it as "Jammin' with Gene". The '57 job was called "Jammin' in hi fi with Gene Ammons" PR7110 and was later reissued as "The twister". The '56 session features Art Taylor on drums and squeaky hi hat pedal. If you have PR7781, it's referred to in the sleeve notes. Both sleeve notes are on the CD. Ira Gitler didn't seem to have noticed the squeak. MG Edited July 23, 2006 by The Magnificent Goldberg Quote
