Two good gigs coming up in D.C. at the U street Twins

8/18 and 8/19: Oliver Lake

I saw him a year or so ago. It was an 80% Dolphy program, played beautifully - if Janelle Gill is on piano again, we're in for a real treat.

8/25 and 8/26: Larry Willis Trio

He often uses a drummer I don't care for, but here the excellent Steve Williams (formerly with Shirley Horn) is scheduled. Steve Novosel is on bass (formerly with Tolliver). Stefan and I just saw Steve on Friday - he's amazing.

Let me know if you're tempted. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I hope to be at both.
