Durium Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Oscar Aleman ( 1909 - 1980 ) On October 14th, Oscar Aleman, the great Argentine jazz gitarist, died 26 years ago. This great guitar player was in Europe and the US a mythical figure for years. In the 1930s he was one of the best guitar players in Europe and could match even Django. A lot of people even found him swing more then Django. Django admired him and they became friends. After 1940 Oscar moved to South America and but few people followed his carreer. He became one of the greatest Argentine stars in the 1950s. Now, in 2006, his musical heritage is described in an extensive discography ( also in book form) and research is done by an enthusiast group of Dutch - Danish - Argentine admirers (The Alemaniacs) in what is called the El Redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman project. A special web log is dedicated to Oscar Aleman ( Oscar Aleman web log ). In its menu you'll find links to other interesting sites. Hans Koert Oscar Aleman Discography Keep swinging Quote
