Big Al Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 As far as I'm concerned, HE is the real King of Rock & Roll. To paraphrase a popular bumper sticker: no Chuck Berry, no rock & roll; know Chuck Berry, know rock & roll. Sometimes I think "Maybellene" may be the greatest rock & roll song EVER. Keep on reelin' & rockin', Chuck Berry! Quote
paul secor Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) Happy Birthday, Chuck Berry!!! Chuck Berry was the cat who showed me how exciting music could be. I got to see him once when he was still doing it, and that was a great night - the music, seeing him do the Chuck walk, the whole thing. Edited October 18, 2006 by paul secor Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 anyone familier with the Ace reissue On The Blues Side? I've been really curious about Chuck's earliest recordings outside of the hits. Quote
marcello Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) I saw him once in the early 70's when he made the Main Act ( Savoy Brown) go on because he, Berry, refused to go on first. So everything started late and he finally went on for less than a hour with a pretty lame back up band. When the auditorium turned up the lights and cut is electirc power to try to make him stop his show because it was overtime, Chuck staged a protest march around the stage with the band following him. To avoid a riot in the face of this maniac, they turned the power on for one more song. This was during the time of his "My Ding- A -Ling" hit: MY DING-A-LING - 25/11/1972 4 weeks at #1 - 17 weeks on chart When I was a little biddy boy My grandmother bought me a cute little toy Silver bells hanging on a string She told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling Oh My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling And then Mama took me to Grammar school But I stopped off in the Vestibule Everytime that bell would ring You'd catch me playing with my ding-a-ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling Once I was climbing the garden wall, I slipped and had a terrible fall I fell so hard I heard bells ring, But held on to My ding-a-ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling OnceI was swimming cross turtle creek Man them snappers all around my feet Sure was hard swimming cross that thing With both hands holding my dingalingaling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling Hmm this here song it ain't so bad The cutest little song you ever had And those of you who will not sing You must be playing with your own Ding-a-ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling Your Ding-A-Ling Your Ding-A-Ling we saw you playing with your Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling everybody's ding I want to play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want to play with My Ding-A-Ling Edited October 18, 2006 by marcello Quote
