Sometimes I think "Maybellene" may be the greatest rock & roll song EVER.

Chuck Berry was the cat who showed me how exciting music could be. I got to see him once when he was still doing it, and that was a great night - the music, seeing him do the Chuck walk, the whole thing.

I saw him once in the early 70's when he made the Main Act ( Savoy Brown) go on because he, Berry, refused to go on first.

So everything started late and he finally went on for less than a hour with a pretty lame back up band. When the auditorium turned up the lights and cut is electirc power to try to make him stop his show because it was overtime, Chuck staged a protest march around the stage with the band following him.

To avoid a riot in the face of this maniac, they turned the power on for one more song.

This was during the time of his "My Ding- A -Ling" hit:
