danasgoodstuff Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 there's many that's been foolhardy enuff to try, and some that did pretty good on the godfather's material, so let's list 'em- [my colon's broke, hate when that happens] First the obvious, Bluenote has more than enuff for a Blue Brown CD- Grant green- "Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing", Carryin' On "Don't Want Nobody"/"Cold Sweat". Shades of Green "In the Middle", Shades of Green "Ain't I Funky Now", Grenn Is Beautiful "Let Yourself Go", unissued ?/?/70 Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 ...continuing with more BN- Lonnie Smith- "I Can't Stand It", Live at the Club Moz. (not credited to JB, but it is) Lou Donaldson- "I'm Black and I'm Proud", Say It Loud Stanley Turentine- "I Got the Feeling", unissued Bobby Hutcherson- "Brother Rap", unissued and non-BN- Albert King- "Cold Sweat" the MarKeys- "Dear James Medley", Great Memphis Sound Otis Redding- "Papa's Gotta Brand New Bag", LIve at the Whiskey (road band) Them/Van M.- "Out of Sight" Areosmith- "Mother Popcorn", Live Bootleg Aretha- "Money Won't Change You", Lady Soul Billy Larkin & the Delegates- "Ain't That a Groove" The Who- "Please, Please, Please", "I Don't Mind", "Shout and Shimmy", My Generation[expanded] Los Lobos- "Try Me" more later... danasgoodstuff Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 One last try to stir up some discussion here, I think that GG and Idris beat the JBs at their own game on "Ain't It Funky Now" and the MarKeys come damn close on their "Dear James Medley" (the album lists the right tunes but in the wrong order). What say you? (object verb subject, where did that structure come from?) One last catagory, not strictly covers, but might as well be- "Mama Too Tight" by Archie Shepp "Soul Theme" by King Curtis "Rock & Soul Music" by Fishy Joe & the Cunts these are truly sincere tributes to JB's greatness...
