I'll be in Paris with my wife for a week end 16th of march, I'll probably will spend saturday and sunday to visit Louvre, Pompidou Center, ecc, since I've been in Paris only a couple of times spending most of the times in bed and going to watching old movies with my former french girlfiends, two young cinephiles in love  , long times ago, I think Mitterand was still president...

My hotel will be close to Sorbonne.

Any suggestions for new things, like new architeture, museums, "must see"?

I know I should stay in Paris a couple of years, to see everything, but I will appreciate some suggestions anyway.

Two things will be very, very welcomed: an great oyster and seafood restaurant and a jazz records (vinyl) shop. My wife will work on monday morning at EU meeting, so I have a recreational time for my personal visit.

I obviously will be pleased to meet some of you parisien, maybe for a glass of vine or aperitif, only one glass, otherwise my doctor could kill me.

porcy62, the weekend in Paris will go fast.

If you want to visit museums, suggest you restrict yourself to a couple of the big ones. The Louvre is huge and you should try to spend several hours in one specific wing (the main gallery and adjacent rooms, if you want to have a close look at La Gioconda!).

The Musée d'Orsay is a must see too. A huge lot of great paintings plus a wonderful setting. It closes on Mondays while the other museums close on Tuesdays.

If you want to see the new architecture, try to see the recently opened Musée du Quai Branly with its striking architecture by Jean Nouvel.

My usual recommendation for visitors to Paris in a hurry is an evening boat ride on the Seine river. It's magic!

Since you'll be near the Sorbonne (in the Latin Quarter) and want to taste oysters, you might try Le Bar A Huitres at 33 rue Saint-Jacques, that's at the corner of the Boulevard Saint-Germain.

If you want to visit vinyl record shops on Monday, you'll be out of luck since both Paris Jazz Corner and Crocojazz are closed that day.

You can console yourself with a visit to the Joseph Gibert record shop on the Boulevard Saint-Michel (a stone throw from the Sorbonne!). It's open on Mondays. They have a great selection of new and secondhand CDs.

PM me if you need more details!
