Saw this film this weekend in a movie festival that shows videos and movies related to the arts.

Very interesting stuff with plenty of footage of Jarrett in many periods (With the Scandinavians, his classic trio, solo, with the American Quartet, in the Davis band and with Corea). Jarrett who never came out as a likable man and does not appeal to us in this video either.

However you get a glimpse of how important music is for him and how his world revolves around it. Don't remember who said it during the film but he resumed pretty well Jarrett by saying . The subtlety of communicating that he is not able to pull through in real life is communicated inside his music.

We watch the late Dewey Redman commenting about the work he did with Jarrett and Ornette Coleman explaining he had a lot more freedom with Coleman while with Jarrett he basicallly did what Jarrett wanted him to do. On the other hand Jarrett explains about the work of that period that to him the other musicians brought the music to another level by bringing their own input. I guess thay don't have the same recollection of their work.

By the way, in the video we see an interview with Scott Jarrett, brother of you know who, who looks like the long lost brother of Weird Al Yankovic. :P

Yup I saw it and thought it very interesting to hear several view points on the man himself as well as some great clips.

On another side I did hear him talking with marian McPartland and that also was very interesting too.

...anyway if you can get a copy of this on dvd I would recommend it...they had it over here on the TV a while back I think but I saw the dvd...very good indeed.

Inspired me to pick up a few TV recordings including some from the 70's.....all I can say is ...Wow!
