six string Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 On a related note, I recently found a dvd of a Sun Ra performance on French TV from January 1971 shot in B&W. The company that put it out is Transparency so I don't know if they are legit or not. I will say that the quality is very high. It's not a dub of a vhs tape as far as I can tell. The images and the music are very crisp and clear. I've never seen it before until now so I decided to get it and check it out. As expected, it's pretty wild with costumed dancers featured. Quote

Transparency is a legitimate operation run by Michael Sheppard (meridianavenue@yahoo.com) - he has released quite a number of Sun Ra items (CDs & DVD's) since the mid 2000's (carried by Dusty Groove etc or you can buy directly from him) - most recent is the 14CD Ra set "The Eternal Myth Revisited, Vol. 1" Havn't heard much from him since then - awaiting his most recent release "Red Garter" 2CD Ra set Quote
kh1958 Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Hopefully they are preparing for the Eternal Myth Part 2. Volume 1 is a very interesting collection of recordings of the influences on Sun Ra, early Sun Ra arrangements/sideman recordings, suspected recordings, through the development of Sun Ra as a leader in the 1950s, interspersed with Sun Ra interviews and commentaries.
