Hardbopjazz Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Mr. Shank was going to play the Iridium Jazz Club in July. The shows are no longer listed on the web site. Anyone know why the were canceled? Quote
DukeCity Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 I took a look at Bud's website and it shows all of his gigs cancelled from July 6 - August 12. Hope nothing's wrong. Quote
Kalo Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 I was looking forward to that Boston gig. He absolutely killed here last summer. I hope it's only a temporary setback. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Bud had been battling some ill health for awhile and he evidently got a little worse recently. He discussed his recent health problems (not in any detail) during a June phone interview with me, which was scheduled for the July issue of All About Jazz-New York. I bet he will be back up to speed and appearing in New York City this fall. Quote
Kalo Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Catch him while you can. The show in Boston last summer was incredible. Shank was on fire. I took my mom -- who had seen him in the '50s in L.A. -- and she said it was the best jazz show she's ever attended. Quote
John Tapscott Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Bud has just released a new CD on Jazzed Media called "Beyond the Red Door" . It's a duo session with Bill Mays and I'm hoping it will be in my mailbox tomorrow. Quote
Kalo Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 They were just about to record that when I interviewed both Bud and Bill last year. What I'd really like to hear is a recording of the Boston gig I was at: Shank, Mays, Martin Wind, and Matt Wilson at the tail end of a several-week tour! Quote
DukeCity Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 One of the first jazz records I ever bought with my very own money was: Swingin' date from the late 1970's, it was my introduction to a number of "standard" tunes: THERE IS NO GREATER LOVE ELSA I`M GETTING SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU THREE LITTLE WORDS IF I WERE A BELL STELLA BY STARLIGHT MY SHIP DEARLY BELOVED Doesn't look like this one has ever been reissued, not even on emusic! Free For All Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Wow, I didn't realize that Chick Corea and Brett Somers had a son! Quote
