Bud had been battling some ill health for awhile and he evidently got a little worse recently. He discussed his recent health problems (not in any detail) during a June phone interview with me, which was scheduled for the July issue of All About Jazz-New York. I bet he will be back up to speed and appearing in New York City this fall.

Catch him while you can. The show in Boston last summer was incredible. Shank was on fire. I took my mom -- who had seen him in the '50s in L.A. -- and she said it was the best jazz show she's ever attended.

They were just about to record that when I interviewed both Bud and Bill last year.

What I'd really like to hear is a recording of the Boston gig I was at: Shank, Mays, Martin Wind, and Matt Wilson at the tail end of a several-week

tour!

One of the first jazz records I ever bought with my very own money was:

BudShank_HeritageA.jpg

Swingin' date from the late 1970's, it was my introduction to a number of "standard" tunes:

THERE IS NO GREATER LOVE

ELSA

I`M GETTING SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU

THREE LITTLE WORDS

IF I WERE A BELL

STELLA BY STARLIGHT

MY SHIP

DEARLY BELOVED

Doesn't look like this one has ever been reissued, not even on emusic!
