Help wanted with famous classical theme...

This question was posted over at AAJ, and though I'm not really a classical music enthusiast, it's gotten me very curious. Here is the question, as posed at the other board:

"this is a clean clip of a 1959 Phil Woods/Clark Terry session, on You Tube.

at exactly 1:09 into the tape, Clark Terry quotes, with a few notes of classical/cartoon music.

Will someone please help me identify the tune he's quoting ?"

I recognize the theme (just about anybody would, I'd say), very familiar... no doubt used in cartoons and such... but despite Google and YouTube, I can't figure it out. Help? Btw, it's worth it just to hear this band playing Ornithology.

I hadn't planned on a prize, so on such short notice this was the best I could do...

Damn... Mendelssohn was my second guess (after Brahms), and I Googled and YouTubed the shit out of them. "Mendelssohn's Spring Song" only brought up 3 videos, so apparently this piece just isn't that hip.

Milt's still swingin' but the Baby Bass sounds like ass! Better for tumbao than for walking. Maybe they were in Europe, and he had to play whatever they came up with?
