This question was posted over at AAJ, and though I'm not really a classical music enthusiast, it's gotten me very curious. Here is the question, as posed at the other board:

"this is a clean clip of a 1959 Phil Woods/Clark Terry session, on You Tube.

at exactly 1:09 into the tape, Clark Terry quotes, with a few notes of classical/cartoon music.

Will someone please help me identify the tune he's quoting ?"

I recognize the theme (just about anybody would, I'd say), very familiar... no doubt used in cartoons and such... but despite Google and YouTube, I can't figure it out. Help? Btw, it's worth it just to hear this band playing Ornithology.

Damn... Mendelssohn was my second guess (after Brahms), and I Googled and YouTubed the shit out of them. "Mendelssohn's Spring Song" only brought up 3 videos, so apparently this piece just isn't that hip.

(and because of that, no points deducted for Phil Woods and his goofy ass hat, which I thought was a more "recent" addition, but no, I guess not.)
