Jim R Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 This question was posted over at AAJ, and though I'm not really a classical music enthusiast, it's gotten me very curious. Here is the question, as posed at the other board: "this is a clean clip of a 1959 Phil Woods/Clark Terry session, on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUrLH1JQtv4 at exactly 1:09 into the tape, Clark Terry quotes, with a few notes of classical/cartoon music. Will someone please help me identify the tune he's quoting ?" I recognize the theme (just about anybody would, I'd say), very familiar... no doubt used in cartoons and such... but despite Google and YouTube, I can't figure it out. Help? Btw, it's worth it just to hear this band playing Ornithology. TIA Quote
Free For All Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 It's Mendelsson's Spring Song (Opus 62, No. 6). Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Joe Harris don't get no respect in that clip. It seems to be members of Quincy's band. Quote

Jim R Posted July 13, 2007 Author Report Posted July 13, 2007 So do I win anything? How about pie? I should at least get some pie. I hadn't planned on a prize, so on such short notice this was the best I could do... Damn... Mendelssohn was my second guess (after Brahms), and I Googled and YouTubed the shit out of them. "Mendelssohn's Spring Song" only brought up 3 videos, so apparently this piece just isn't that hip. Okay, now, your moment of Thanks FFA, now I know who to bug next time this happens. Quote
JSngry Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 (edited) Never mind all that, check it out - Sahib Shihab and Patti Bown. HEY. (and because of that, no points deducted for Phil Woods and his goofy ass hat, which I thought was a more "recent" addition, but no, I guess not.) Edited July 13, 2007 by JSngry Quote

Milt's still swingin' but the Baby Bass sounds like ass! Better for tumbao than for walking. Maybe they were in Europe, and he had to play whatever they came up with? Quote
