robviti
Greetings from a former R'Island native. Although this year's festival is not as jazzy as their anniversary shows a few years ago, I do plan to attend the Saturday and Sunday events this year. I opted for general admission tickets because most of the acts I'm interested in are performing on the two smaller stages. Here's the lineup: Friday, August 10th International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino 194 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, R.I. 8:00 pm Dianne Reeves & her Band Count Basie Orchestra featuring Nnenna Freelon Saturday, August 11th Fort Adams State Park Harrison Avenue, Newport, R.I. 11:30 AM - 7:00 PM JVC Stage Branford Marsalis Quartet Marcus Miller Band Dave Brubeck Quartet Zap Mama Bruce Hornsby w/Jack DeJohnette/Christian McBride Joshua Redman Trio Pavilion Stage Chico Hamilton & Euphoria The Brubeck Brothers Quartet Monk Legacy Septet featuring Ben Riley Kenny Werner Quintet Gunther Schuller conducts the Mingus Orchestra Waterside Stage Roswell Rudd Quartet Abdullah Ibrahim - solo piano Anat Cohen Quartet Sunday, August 12th Fort Adams State Park Harrison Avenue, Newport, R.I. 11:30 AM - 7:00 PM JVC Stage BB King Al Green Etta James & The Roots Band Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band Paquito D'Rivera's Panamericana Ensemble Pavilion Stage Luciana Souza - Ron Carter/Russell Malone/Mulgrew Miller Jon Faddis' Teranga The Music of Rahsaan Roland Kirk feat. Steve Turre Waterside Stage Ben Allison Quartet Portrait of Bill Evans featuring Eliane Elias Getz & Jobim: Harry Allen & Trio da Paz Donald Harrison Quartet featuring Christian Scott Here's a link to the festival website: 2007 JVC Jazz Festival - Newport So, anyone else planning to attend? robviti
well, i'm taking off for my parents' home in r.i. tomorrow afternoon. i'm staying there overnight and going to the festival saturday and sunday. the acts i'm most interested in are performing on the two smaller stages, so i saved myself a few bucks and didn't get a reserved seat in front of the main stage. no one else is going? too bad, it should be fun.
