rpklich Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 "Tojo" Jiminez passed on a couple of days ago http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking_d...ory/241213.html . He was the most influential trombonist in Latin jazz and Afro Cuban music. "Trombon Criollo" is a great descarga (jam) featuring him on "Cachao Y Su Ritmo Caliente". Its 50 years old and sounds great today. (That Cachao record has be reissued many times.) Quote
mikeweil Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 R.I.P. IIRC the first Cuban trombonist of international fame - as important to his style as J.J. Johnson was to modern jazz. Quote
