Hardbopjazz Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 One of the true giants is here in NY to play the Blue Note. Does he still have anything left? I thought of going. Johnny Griffin is one of my all time favorite jazz musicians. Anyone planning to attend one of the sets? Quote

Johnny Griffin is one of my all time favorite jazz musicians. Anyone planning to attend one of the sets? I saw him 2 years ago and he was good. He got decent reviews for a recent show in London. He doesn't do as much uptempo material as he used to, but he was still great on ballads. If I was in NYC, I would probably go just to see a legend. (He is a lot shorter than I imagined.) Quote
Shawn Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 DAMN! If I had known about this earlier I would have taken the road trip up to see him. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted September 22, 2007 Author Report Posted September 22, 2007 I will go and see him. At 81 and he doesn't come to America much anymore, so I better do it now. Quote
Kalo Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 (He is a lot shorter than I imagined.) That's why they call him "the Little Giant." I saw him at the Regattabar in Cambridge several times during the '80s and '90s, to great reward. I'd love to hear in person again. Quote
