Joe G Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) Recently posted in the youtube thread... I'd like to see a "where are they now" episode on her. Edit: Try singing her pitches, David. I found it pretty difficult. Edited October 20, 2007 by Joe G Quote

I found it pretty difficult. I tried. I can hit some of the long tones if I ignore the backing track, but the short pitches are difficult. But her performance...pure magic. Quote
WD45 Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 i dunno -- could it be a fake? It is so consistently off. Sounds like a bad Stan Kenton chart. Quote

It sounded like some of the background was purposely off to support her to me too. Maybe a nightmare version/takeoff on the Peanut Vendor idea? Stan, forgive us. JSngry Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 It's professionally dissonant. If the context was different, it would be hip as shit. Quote
Free For All Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Sometime ago there was a tape floating around of someone (I think it might have been Bobby Shew) who added another trumpet track to a bunch of Herb Alpert Tijuana Brass recordings, but like a half-step out of tune and really poorly played, missing rhythms, entrances etc. It was very funny, I wish I could find it again. Kind of the same thing as the Jonathan and Darlene bit that Jo Stafford and her husband did. Quote

You know, the very first note I heard of this (when FFA posted it) was in a somewhat noisy environment, and my initial reponse was along the lines of ... "whoa - interesting harmony there!" Quote

I didn't realize someone already mentioned this video here. Must have been in the youtube thread, never did keep up with that one. Quote
