paul secor Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 I have only one vinyl also. You might try reading William Zinsser's Willie and Dwike: An American Profile - an excellent read. I've only heard them on the one LP I have, but it seems as if their lives might be at least as interesting as their music. Willie Ruff has written an autobiography, A Call to Assembly, which I haven't read - yet - it's on one of my shelves. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted November 16, 2007 Author Report Posted November 16, 2007 gee thanks paul Quote
JSngry Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 There was a Mainstream side of them live w/Dizzy, early 70s, good stuff. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 There was a Mainstream side of them live w/Dizzy, early 70s, good stuff. Yes, that's a really good recording. As I recall it was done at Dartmouth College, which is where I heard them (less Diz) about a decade later. Nice show... Quote
brownie Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Long time ago I heard their album of Billy Strayhorn tunes. Can't say I was impressed and never bothered about the duo after. Did I really miss something? Quote
JSngry Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 I'll put it this way - on the album w/Dizzy, if it wasn't for Dizzy, I don't know if I'd have remembered it. Quote
brownie Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 That was also my opinion of the album with Dizzy Quote
