six string Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 I posted this in the now playing section, but this is where it belongs. Eddie Harris - Trip! (Stereo Sounds) New one for me. Anyone heard of this record before? There are no credits on anything on this record. Liner notes has no name, no list of musicians outside of Eddie's name on the cover, no songwriter's credits on cover or label and there are a lot of standards on it. The cover says that the label is a subsidiary of Phono-Record Management Inc. L.A., Ca. It's not on his website's discography and not on AMG either. He was on so many labels over the years, so I can see how a discography could miss one. It's a solid straight ahead date though. Quote
JSngry Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Is it live? If not, my guess would be some of the older Vee-Jay sides. He did lots of standards there, and they've been repackaged some over the years. What are the songs, anyway? What are their length? Is there a guitarist? Strings? Quote

I'll have to wait until I get home to answer these questions. I listened to it once last night and I was a little distracted unlike my usual situation on a first listen, but I remember piano, bass, drums, guitar and NO STRINGS. I cant' remember if I heard an audience or not. If there is, it's a quieter club type date because I can't really recall any loud clapping. The liner notes and the thickness of the vinyl makes me think it's an early to mid seventies pressing. I sent an email to his website to see if they might have an answer but I won't know about that until I get home too. Sorry for the missing gaps of info. I should have waited until I could answer more thoroughly. Edited November 16, 2007 by six string Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Trip reissued a bunch of Vee Jay masters. Could be from their holdings. Don't have time to do the research. Quote
