Oh yeah! I heard 2 sets on Wednesday night - I was only going to hear one, but it was so compelling I stayed. Potter knows Motian and his music well, but the surprise for me was how Jason took to Paul........it was quite intense, and I joked with Jason during the break that I really missed the bass player.........for about 10 seconds. On the second set, Paul played a solo that left me absolutely breathless....some of the strongest playing I've heard from him in years. He just unleashed! Some of the tunes they played were Blue Monk, Fantasm, Our Love Is Here To Stay, Don't Explain, Monk's Mood, Four in One, and other standards and Motian originals. I hope they record - even though it was only their second night together on the bandstand, it's obvious that there's much potential for lots of rewarding music from these three.

I caught the first set on Wednesday as well and was impressed by the tight interplay of the group. Although the set started slowly, the momentum certainly built with some great treatments of two Monk tunes " Four in One" and "Ruby My Dear" as well as the other standards "Don't Explain" and "If You Could See Me Now".

Between sets I asked Chris Potter about any plans for a forthcoming Dave Holland Quintet CD. He responded that there were no plans at present which has me hoping, as Frank stated, that this "3 in one" trio records soon.
