felser Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 This is a 40 CD box set entitled "The Duke - Edward Kennedy Ellington". It is of European origin (Trumpets of Jericho label) and contains "the complete works from 1924-1947". It has about 800 cuts on it. I've listened to/sampled everything on it. Sound quaility is fine, session info is present. Packaging is otherwise pretty spartan. CD's are in 20 thinline double cases, which have front and back inserts, and all of that is in a big box. Everything is in great shape, listened to once. The outer box is somewhat beat up, but is really pretty worthless anyways as it adds nothing in the way of aesthetics or info. Too much music, I won't really play it again as Ellington doesn't kick in for me until around the mid-30's, and I have smaller sets with a more succinct selection which I will reference instead. My preference is to trade the set, but I will also consider selling it. Not sure of the present value of the set - I know it was a budget issue, but don't believe it is in print at this point. Quote
