ghost of miles Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 A friend gave me a copy of this the other day--I've been down (literally) with a cold for the past 4-5 days, and haven't listened to it yet (haven't listened to much of anything outside of a little Ellington and Mobley), but I really liked Jackson's last release and am eager to give this one a spin. Liner notes are by John Litweiler...any posters had a chance to hear this yet? It certainly looks promising. Quote
Larry Kart Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I think it's excellent (disclaimer: Jackson is a friend, and I wrote the notes for that other album of his, though we became friends mostly because I liked his music). When you do get to hear this one, you'll find it's a bit different than the previous one. More writing, and that writing os more "sound"/"voicings" oriented. Also, this is a much better recording job. Delmark's own studio is rather dry. Quote

I prefer this to the previous record because of the increased compositional aspect, which to my ears really works for this ensemble. Quote
