Bluerein Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hello all, is there anyone on this board (or beyond) who has even seen the 2 Three Sounds CD's EMI South Africa has put out in the 90's? They are listed in the Ruppli/Cuscuna discography but I wasn't able to get them anywhere. MC doesn't have them either. Quote

Are you saying there were two Three Sounds CDs put out in South Africa that have material never released elsewhere? Details, please! And if anyone has these, who do you want to sell them to? Renier (who's a fine fellow, no doubt) or the original Gene Harris Fanatic? Quote

Hi Dan, It appears as though the albums Soul Symphony (CD BN(SA)8-31917-2) and Elegant Soul (CD BN(SA)8-31918-2) were released on CD in South Africa back in the day... as were two Big John Patton albums (Along Came John and The Way I Feel). I've never seen these South African CD's, and have never known anyone who has. I might be mistaken, but I don't think Soul Symphony or Elegant Soul have been released on CD anywhere else... so it would be nice to actually find these South African discs! Cheers, Shane Quote

Cheers, Shane Well that's a relief, Shane. I have both of those on vinyl - Soul Symphony actually has its moments, definitely better than Elegant Soul overall. Thanks for the explanation - I was afraid that for some weird reason, EMI South Africa got into the vaults and pulled out never-issued material. Quote
Bluerein Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 So it's safe to assume these are non existant? Or are there maybe 100 copies made in SA. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 There's an Ebay South Africa site, I'd keep an eye on it to see if a copy ever appears. It probably will, sooner or later. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 There was a nice little market in Namibia for SA Blue Notes. I have one or two. "Mr Shing-a-ling" is one. Can't remember what the other is. I saw a fair few Soul Jazz stuff out there in the ordinary shops (ie, not the ones with a largely African clientele). MG Quote
