ghost of miles Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 For purposes of a radio series (and possible CD re-issue) project, I'm searching for information regarding the Hampton Sisters' releases on the King and Aladdin labels. (They come from Indianapolis, Indiana, and yes, they are the sisters of Slide & Maceo.) I'm also looking for the actual recordings themselves, or decent transfers of them. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted October 6, 2003 Report Posted October 6, 2003 Are you sure there was something on Aladdin? I find no mention in Michel Ruppli's "The Aladdin/Imperial Labels." Don't have his King label book here but suspect what you are looking for is in there. I think at least one date for what you want is included in my Slide discography (April 7, 1953). Mike Quote

Mike Thanks for the lead, Mike. My request re: Aladdin is based on a mention in Duncan Schiedt's 1977 book THE JAZZ STATE OF INDIANA. I'll ask him about it next time I see him; I'm also supposed to see the Hampton Sisters perform next month in Indy, so that should give me a chance to go straight to the source. Quote
brownie Posted October 7, 2003 Report Posted October 7, 2003 GOM, I have the King Label book by Ruppli somewhere at home. Will check on your Hampton Sisters. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 7, 2003 Author Report Posted October 7, 2003 Thanks, Brownie. These are proving pretty elusive so far... I'm hoping to get more info from the sisters themselves. Quote
brownie Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 GOM, my mistake. I have the Ruppli Chess book, not the King. Trust you aware of the Hampton Sisters 1954 session for Savoy that is in the Lord? Quote
