Christiern Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 I am very sorry to pass on this information. Will post details as I learn them--or, perhaps, someone else will. Mona, of course, was Milt Hinton's widow and devoted fan.It was she who took the color footage seen in "A Great Day in Harlem." A lovely person who will be greatly missed by anyone who had the privilege to know her, however briefly. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Sorry to hear this. They were indeed a lovely couple. I couldn't imagine her without Milt. Quote
Christiern Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 (edited) Or Milt without Mona. Ten years ago, the NYT did a nice piece on the Hintons. Why wait for an obituary? and here's a later and more Mona-focused piece from Queens Press. Edited May 4, 2008 by Christiern Quote
Alexander Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 They say that behind every great man is a great woman (or vice versa, I would argue). Milt and Mona gave truth to that cliche. RIP Quote
ValerieB Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 very sorry to hear this sad news. what a wonderful woman. what a fabulous wife. and a beautiful face and spirit. the last time i saw her, she was pushing Milt in his wheelchair. i'd like to think that they're together again. Quote
paul secor Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Sorry to read this. I didn't have the privilege of knowing her - only had some contact through the mail in the late 80's & early 90's when I ordered copies of two of Milt Hinton's books for myself and a bassist friend. From that, I had the impression that Mr. and Mrs. Hinton were truly fine people. Quote
Harold_Z Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Sorry to hear this. I'm in the same boat as Paul as far as knowing them, but the vibe I always felt was they were great people. Quote
