....reasonable price.

I may need a new receiver. I'll know probably sometime this weekend when I'll get a chance to check the wiring to see what's causing the high pitched hum I'm hearing. If it's internal I'll get a new receiver. The mono switch is something I would like to have as long as I'm upgrading, but I don't know of ANY receivers with that feature.

Hi Harold. I'm sort of in the same boat as you needing to finally upgrade the receiver after close to 25 years? I own an old Yahama R-9 receiver pushing 125 watts. It's served me well up to recently when the audio seems to drop out now and then. Looks like I'll finally have to bite the bullet. Have you checked out any of the receivers over at Crutchfield's website? This is a receiver I've been eyeing. Crutchfield Website Even if this doesn't meet your expectations, it might be worth searching there inventory?

I also owned a Yahama R-9 for about the same length of time until it stopped working a few months ago. I purchased an NAD integrated amplifier (150 watts) to replace it and have been very pleased with the upgrade.

If you're looking for something a bit more "audiophile" (though still fairly cheap), check out audioadvisor.com. Some of their sale items are very good. I'm especially fond of their Cambridge Audio gear.

I can save you a bunch of change. :excited:

Get one of these:

Mono, stereo, don't matter. CIMP cds would sound great on these if the machines accepted cds.

PLUS !!....IT EVEN PLAYS 78s !

In the 80's and 90's many (if not most) receivers had a mono switch, because every FM tuner needs that feature.

The ineresting thing with the receivers was that the mono switch was usually in the amplifier stage and would apply to any signal passing through the amp. So you could use it for CDs and LPs as well.
