brownie Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 There was this 2CD 'Miles from the Dark' album by Prince at a secondhand record shop yesterday. Know that Miles and Prince bootlegs are rare items and that Miles makes a short appearance on one track from what is described as a 1987 New Year's Eve benefit concert. But I just have enough of getting those '80s Miles Davis concerts added to my collection. Most of the ones I have bought have been played once and then stored not to be heard again. Do I really need this one? This is on the Sabotage label. An appropriate name! It's sealed. Have gotten it on hold. Price is very cool. Is it THAT rare. There is a mention of the disc being a limited edition of 1,000 copies. Quote
JSngry Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 If it's that New Year's Eve show, Prince and Co. turn it a really good set of hard hitting funk, long jams that get in the pocket and stay there forever. It's like a club date with a REALLY good band. Miles' contribution is minimal, but fun, and hearing Prince tease/taunt him ever so slightly (something like, "Miles, ain't it past your bedtime?"), is a hoot. I'd say pick it up if this is what it is - it's TOTALLY a Prince show, but some damn, REALLY damn, good stuff. If it's something else, well, I don't know what to tell you. Quote
brownie Posted October 12, 2003 Author Report Posted October 12, 2003 It is the New Year's Eve show. Got it, listened to the audio CD. Your description is up to the point, as usual. Will have to have a look at the video CD. A friend of mine who is a Miles fanatic (and completist) is already making unreasonable offers for this item. Quote
