The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 The funny thing is, I didn't know who Rube Goldberg was until you told me a couple of years ago. And I didn't (and don't) know that my avatar is a Rube Goldberg drawing - though it's the right style, kind of. MG Quote

And I didn't (and don't) know that my avatar is a Rube Goldberg drawing - though it's the right style, kind of. MG From our discussion of Rube Goldberg a few years ago, I learned that Heath Robinson also drew complicated contraptions for simple things. In fact, what people commonly think of as Rube Goldberg devices are actually more like Heath Robinson devices. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Over here, it's not Rube Goldberg who's proverbial, it's W Heath Robinson (1972-1944) This splendid bit of surrealism is titled "Stout members of the sixth column dislodge an enemy machine gun post on the dome of St Paul's" MG Quote
seeline Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 That 3d cartoon is a gem, MG! (I like the others, too, but the image + political commentary is very nifty!) Quote

I don't know who drew it. Someone sent it to me and I thought it was pretty nice. MG Quote
BruceH Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Ah, Bosch! The H. R. Giger of his time. Quote

Spawned a few sequels that were along the same lines (wolf goes ga-ga for hot dancer). More info here. Quote
Shawn Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Not like MG's avatar...and not an album cover...but one of my faves.... Edited June 20, 2008 by Shawn Quote
Hot Ptah Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 That art was used on the cover of Mott The Hoople's first LP: Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 I was trying to think what that Erp was used for. You beat me to it. I think there was another, which had the Erp building with the endless levels on it. Can't remember what that was, either. MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Oh, and wasn't there another sleeve with the balck and white birds? MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 W Heath Robinson (1972-1944) Wow! He lived a cRaZy backwards life as well! "Danger W. Robinson" Oh! I'm having a bad brain evening! MG Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Yes, that was one. I think there was another with this Escher, or a similar one (he did a lot on this theme). MG Quote
