Bottom line is that I doubt the vocalist, etc. can be identified, but hopefully

I am wrong.

If a researcher desires, and they have the Rhapsody player installed on their

computer, they can listen to a clip on the Rhapsody website.

Yeah, I've been trying to make heads or tails of this one too. Crownstar, Crown, Modern, Flair, United Superior, Custom, and Riveria are all names I've seen at eMusic with this material. Looks like whoever has the rights to the Crown/Modern stuff decided to cash in. The interesting thing is, on some of this stuff, not only are there a few different versions to chose from, but there's even session tapes out there. So, if the album had a stereo and mono version, a reissue somewhere alonge the way (usually with the highs rolled off for some reason) and any out takes, you can find all that stuff at eMusic anyway. The nice thing is, the stuff I've downloaded sounds a million times better than the old vinyl. It's just kind of a puzzle figuring out which version of the Ted Nash Peter Gunn album (for one example where I think every scrap of tape on this album is at eMusic) to snag.

If I recall correctly, Crown was a discount imprint. They actually put out a fair amount of jazz. As a matter of fact, a bunch of it showed up on eMusic awhile back, but I think it's stay was short lived. Never heard of Crownstar, but those records they're showing on the linked website are definitely Crowns without the star.

Up over and out.

Actually I started my search for the Ted Nash Peter Gunn recording. I had also found that every scrap of tape they could scrap off of the floor was run thru a tape machine and put out for sale. Some cuts are only 19 seconds long!

I own the original clear red vinyl pressing and it sounds heavily worn. iTunes carries it the full recording. Title: Ted Nash and His Orchestra, Peter Gunn and Other Themes by Mancini. While the description says "Other Themes", they are all from Peter Gunn, all ten tracks.

You will have to shuffle thru quite a few outtake snippets to find the album, but it is really well worth it. This is by far and away the best recording of Mancini's Peter Gunn scores.
