JohnS Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) I was looking at my copy of Impulse A3 (Kai Winding)and noticed that it was a product of the AM-Par Music Corp (both on the label and the jacket) . All my old Impulse albums have gone now and the remainder of, various vintages say ABC Paramount, so I've nothing to compare it against. Question is - does AM-PAR denote an early pressing? porcy62 Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...&hl=Impulse! Has it a 'shiny' or a 'matte' label? Edited July 19, 2008 by porcy62 Quote
JohnS Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 Thanks for the link Porcy. I'd forgotten about that topic, some interesting comments there but it doesn't cover this point. My Curtis Fuller Soul Trombone (A13) also has AM-PAR on the jacket but the record is a later pressing. The Winding has a matt-ish label, certainly not glossy and has the earliest design of label. porcy62 Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 AFIK the first pressings of number up to roughly A100 should have a glossy label, later pressings and later catalog numbers have 'matte' labels, earliest design 'four logos'. About AM-PAR on cover no clues, on my Impulse!, didn't check all of them, I've got 'shiny' or 'matte' label in 'ABC Paramount' covers. I think Michel or Brownie or Chuck cleared it somewhere on the forum, but I don't remember where, maybe in "eBay craziness, vinyl edition" thread. Quote

JohnS Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 Thanks aloc. So the earliest pressings are AM-PAR. Just hadn't come across or noticed this variation before. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) Just checked my copy of this one, which I think is a stereo original. Laminated sleeve with 'Product of Am-Par' on the back, ABC-Paramount liner and the orange/black '4 logos'. Looks like glossy labels. Good excuse to give it a spin ! Woops - sorry, I'm thinking of Impulse A-1. 'Jai and Kai'. Edited July 19, 2008 by sidewinder Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 thanks for the excuse to dig out some wonderful vinyls. in those days, those were my labels of choice, although the recording quality occasioally let me down. Quote
