BillF Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I've just been listening to an old Lee Konitz 10" Vogue LP called Jazz Time Paris, recorded during the Kenton orchestra's 1953 tour and featuring a backing group of Henri Renaud, Jimmy Gourley, Don Bagley and Stan Levey. IMHO this is some of the finest Konitz I've ever heard (bearing in mind it's the 1950s Konitz that I like), so the question arises: has this ever been released on CD, or am I in possession of a rare treasure? JohnS Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Hi Bill, I'm sure this came out as part of a French Vogue cd. For the moment I can't lay my hands on my copy but as soon as I do, I'll post details. Quote
Chas Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I too share your enthusiasm for early Konitz . The Vogue material was later issued as part of a Prestige 12-incher , and is currently available on this French CD :http://www.amazon.com/Lee-Konitz-Bob-Brook.../dp/B000003EKU/ . Quote
JohnS Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) Found it now. It was on Vogue 74321115032 in an American Jazz In Paris series in 1992. Eleven tracks by Konitz, coupled with four nice tracks by Bob Brookmeyer. All excellent stuff from a period I like a lot. Edited August 19, 2008 by JohnS Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) Sadly, that disc was not complete. Lots of alternates would make a decent cd. Maybe the Japanese have done it right. I think there are a total of 14 masters. Edited August 19, 2008 by Chuck Nessa Quote

No matter what, it's a treasure. It has been issued on CD, with alternate takes. Mine was issued by BMG, and has the following: -5 takes of I'll Remember April -3 takes of All the Things You Are -2 takes of These Foolish Things -1 take of You'd Be So Nice It also has 4 tracks of Bob Brookmeyer with Renaud, Gourley, Red Mitchell & Frank Isola from 1954. As you say, this is some of the very finest Konitz. Q Quote
